Ideation & Development

Due to the “safety” theme of our theme, we had sketches and ideas on building a more welcoming and homely environment. We came up with ideas of building a house like space to create a home like safety surrounding with hanging lights, which inspired us from Chinatown’s hanging lanterns. Our next idea was to create a front and back bus shaped tables to make our theme more obvious to the audience. W e ditched the home idea and went with the bus setup. We adjusted our design based on the materials we have and the next set of sketches were formed. We decided to use metal frames as the bus and have synthetic grass to create a big contrast. Instead of using ropes going across the frames, we decided to settle for orange plastic nets over the roof of the frame where we can hang cups. Due to the sizes of the materials, our final design was readjusted to create a cleaner and more practical look. We cut down the size of the bus by half and created a more open seating area. ...

What is Park(ing) Day?

From: Parking Day Sg Facebook Page, https://www.facebook.com/parkingdaysg/photos/a.681954715226510/1624432500978722/?type=3&theater “Citizen Activists around the globe turn parking spaces into mini-parks for a day to demonstrate the need for more urban green space. The annual event is organized online, but staged offline in dozens of cities on every continent around the world. It’s a demonstration of the power of social media and international collaborative activism… and a great way to have fun and relax.” From: https://parkingday.org/what-parking-day-is-all-about/ Our project We, design students of San Francisco State University, were tasked with participating in Parking day 2018. Teams were formed and were given out themes to follow through with our concepts. Our group was assigned the following theme: Safety Transit Environment.

Acquiring Sponsorship

With coffee as our main pull factor for our project, we needed sponsorship to supply us with snacks and refreshments. Our professor recommended trying to obtain sponsorship from Cafe Rosso . We reached out to Mr.Allum from Cafe Rosso with the help of our professor. They agreed to sponsor us and provided us with cups, refreshments, and even snacks!  Many thanks to Cafe Rosso!
